Christmas Is Here Again

Pacific Conservatory Theatre
Director:  Roger DeLaurier
Costume Designer:  Marcy Froehlich

This was a world premiere musical about a young orphan girl and her journey to save Christmas from the evil elf Krad and restore Santa's missing magic toy sack.  Along the way she meets many iconic Christmas objects that help her on her adventures.  Based on Renegade Animation's animated film of the same name.

Candy Cane headpieces:  in this production we are introduced to some iconic objects from Christmas during the Ornament Ballet.  We had three candy canes in white unitards painted with red stripes.  I created their headpieces using 1/2" foam, covered with a double layer of lycra and painted with a red stripe.  The headpieces velcroed to the hood portion of the unitard.
Christmas Tree headpiece:  A Christmas Tree also appeared during the Ornament Ballet.  I created the star headpiece for this character out of L200 foam.  The fabric coverings were glued to the foam with spray adhesive, then all the pieces were sewn together to create the finished star.
Snowflake headpieces:  At various times throughout this production we see the dance ensemble (5 men, 5 women) dressed as snowflakes.  The designer created male and female versions of the headpieces to co-ordinate with their costumes.  I created the snowflake shapes for both headpieces from 1/4" L200 foam that were barged to silver headbands.  The foam was then spray painted silver.  Flesh colored elastic chinstraps were added for security.  The final step involved covering the headpieces with glitter by means of spray adhesive.
